About
The Havanese Breed
Havanese, the only dog breed native to Cuba, are cheerful little dogs with a spring in their step and a gleam in their big, brown eyes. These vivacious and sociable companions are becoming especially popular with city dwellers. Distinctive features of the Havanese include a curled-over tail and a gorgeous silky coat, which comes in a variety of colors. Some owners enjoy cording the coat, and others clip it short to reduce grooming time. Happily, Havenese are just as cute no matter what hairdo you give them. Their small but sturdy bodies, adaptable nature, and social skills make Havanese an ideal city dog, but they are content to be anywhere that they can command the attention of admirers young and old alike. Havanese, smart and trainable extroverts with the comic instincts of a born clown, are natural trick dogs. Havanese are also excellent watchdogs and take the job seriously, but will usually keep the barking to a minimum.

Experienced Breeders & Trainers
Oakwood Kennels is working with Salida Del Sol Kennels (who have over 30 years experience in breeding the Havanese) to continue their champion lineage.
Having healthy, happy and well adjusted puppies is our breeding goal. Our line of dogs have amazing temperaments and we breed with this in mind.
Oakwood Kennels are experienced dog breeders and trainers and you can reach out to us anytime after taking puppy home for advice or to book professional training sessions.
Healthy Puppies
All pups are vet checked, come with with their first set of vaccinations, are microchipped, CKC registered and have a 1-year health guarantee for genetic diseases.
Each puppy will be sent home with a care kit, an information package about puppy, and advice for training.

Churro was part of Gracie’s first litter and is 2 years old this May. He is a super welcoming guy and is always excited to meet people, other dogs, and cats. He has a sweet spot for kids and is very gentle around them. He loves going on long walks and napping beside us whether it’s on the couch or even the floor! Check him out on Instagram @churro.crtz

Oakwood is not a kennel, it’s a family home where pups are nurtured into the world with love, attention and mindfulness. Carla’s set-up for Mumma and Pups is very comfortable. We adore our “Nugget” (of Gracie-Mae) … he’s a perfect balance between monk and monkey! Calm, kookie and loving! Huge kudos to Carla and family for the wonderful start they give these four-legged angels (you gotta see the vid of Carla’s son leading a “charge and retreat” of the 8 pups… hysterically adorable!!)

We were so happy that we were able to come by and meet the puppies, be educated on the breed, and have any questions answered before committing. We even got to meet the mom, which was a first for us. We were kept updated with how and what the puppies were doing, and how their first vet appointment went. It was amazing to have Carla there readily for any questions, and that she is there to continue checking up and providing advice as needed. Throughout the whole process we felt secure and well informed.

Wow, Carla and Oakwood Kennels have simply been amazing to deal with. I told our story to Carla about loosing our beautiful almost 15 year old Havanese Feb of 2024, she was so compassionate and determined to see us get a new Havanese puppy, it warmed our hearts! Our new beautiful girl was born Dec 13/24, we received all sorts of great baby pictures every few days and kept us abreast of how the puppies were doing. We picked up our little girl a bit later than normal and Carla was wonderful in keeping her the extra time. This puppy is so well adjusted, your perfect Havanese puppy!!!
